Day 82

One of my blessings.
31. Thank you, God, for creating Spanky.
You breathed your life into a dog and we named him Spanky.

~ Spanky through the years ~ 

We were having a normal Saturday, spending most of the day cleaning the yard. We had to spread grass poison because there were alot of unwanted critters living in the grass and we made sure to keep Spanky out of the backyard while we spread it. Because it took a few hours and we had to leave the house knowing we would not get back until late that night, we decided to let Spanky go into the backyard.( A decision we wish we could change.) We came home very late that night and left the next morning very early. We knew we were going to be gone for the next few days so we left his crate and plenty of food and water for him. Well when we came home he was not himself, but just figured he was sad that we left him outside for so long. The next day he had not changed and was not eating and was throwing up. At this point we were pretty sure he ate some of the grass poison. After a few vet visits and Spanky loosing too much weight, we made the sad decision to put him down. To say the least it was a very sad day. I am so glad my sister came with us because I don't know what I would have done without her. That evening we had a burial and sang him a farewell song. Through all of our sadness and many tears came the question, "Are dogs in heaven?"

Bumbles made sure to give him a bath before our last visit to the vet.

 ~ One of his favorite things to do..... chase lizards. ~

and she made sure he was buried with one. ~

Ode to Spanky

Spanky~Doodle came to us,

When he was just a puppy,

We loved him and he loved us back,

Although he was often grumpy…

We loved to watch you prances,

You always tried to please us,

Spanky and Greagio,

They loved eachother dearly,

They’d run and romp and play all day,

Thou they never got weary…Refrain

Spanky~Doodle would chase lizards,

He once caught a squirrel,

He loved to eat B’s strawberries,

And now he is Jesus’s pearl…Refrain

Now we have to say good~bye

It’s only temporary,

We will see you very soon,

Stay by Jesus and Mary…Refrain


Are there dogs heaven?

Who am I to say that there is or there isn't, but I like to think there are.
